We have a year to review. This looks like the first for Eutopia, so feel free to chime in. In the category of Life Changing Events I submit the following:
Finding dead hikers is now bigger news than Car chases
Lets explore this part of the stupid pool a moment. People fresh with the glistening drip of their pool swim decide to climb mountains and get stuck or lost. This is a tragedy ultimately as other similar folk must then risk their own lives trying to collect the lives of these fine people. The best part is: ITS NOW ENTERTAINMENT.
Car chases were much more fun. We could all sit in bars and cheer the police, or the criminal depending on the bar, and watch wanton destruction of private property. Perhaps it's a male bonding thing. The BEST part is that there was some poor bastard in a bar screaming, "STOP! THAT'S MY CAR!!"
This doesn't work with the hikers. We just get to watch their corpses freeze dry and wonder,"What chain of events made it look like a good idea to actually DO that? Oh, wait, there is frozen stupid pool on them. Got it."

Just different smelling shit. Has anything really changed?
What's the same, then?
We are still, have always, will forever be, fascinated by stupidity.
Ares, are you debating yourself?
I think lost hikers and people is most entertaining. I like the whole speculation part of the whether they are dead or alive. A test of wills, will we lose interest before the hikers are found? Cause as soon as the ratings start to smolder, poof, there goes your helicopters etc.
Someone should make a movie about the Mt. Hood hikers being found in the year 2250 and having to adapt to the future lie style, global warming precautions etc. I’m sure it’ll never stop.
I miss car chases. I’m watching Cops right now. I love the Pitt maneuver.
New idiots in China. INternational fun here.
BEIJING (AP) — The body of a U.S. climber missing for more than a month has been found on a remote mountain in southwestern China while a second climber is still missing and presumed dead, a rescue coordinator said Wednesday.
Christine Boskoff, a top female climber, and Charlie Fowler, a well-known climber, guide and photographer, were reported missing after they failed to return to the United States on Dec. 4.
"They don't know which body yet. The rescuers were told to take pictures without disturbing anything. They will go back up in the morning with shovels," said Arlene Burns, a friend of both climbers.
Are the 99.9% of climbers that don't get lost and need a rescue (or recovery) also idiots? Or is it just the lost and dead ones?
btw, I'm one of the ones that made it back alive. Don't be calling me no idiot.
You're only an idiot if you get lost cause other people trouble and or die. Being exposed to the media is also a prerequisite.
So you got that going for ya!
You're not an idiot for being a mountain climber, after all, it's good, clean fun. You're an idiot for mountain climbing in a winter storm at 11,000 feet. You're an idiot for sailing in a hurricane. You're an idiot for ballooning in a lightning storm... caving in the rain, eating sushi in Nebraska, water skiing in Florida, etc.
